EASY-HATCH™ Tropical Fish You Hatch is the world’s first dormant “fish-in-a-box,”
and a great way for kids to learn about nature. These aren’t toys but rather real,
live and brilliantly colored tropical aquarium fish! “How can
live fish emerge from a box with dry ingredients and a few simple tools? Our scientist have discovered fish, called killifish,
which have evolved over millions of year, allowing them to survive in seasonal
ponds which almost dry up for several months at a time,” explains Dennis Binkley,
president of GEOSPACE® International. “Killifish spawn in the mud of the temporary
ponds and floodplains and the eggs diapause, or cease development, until the environmental
conditions are ideal. When the seasonal rain returns and revitalizes the pond,
the eggs hatch and the cycle continues.” Under parental
supervision, children simply immerse the “EASY-HATCH™
Soil” containing the hibernating eggs in the fish bowl with distilled water
at 75º Fahrenheit. Then place a pinch of metabolically inactive brine shrimp eggs
in a separate dish with bottled or filtered 75º Fahrenheit water, which are to
be used to feed the fish. After about 24
hours, or maybe less, the fish eggs will hydrate and hatch.
The fish start out very tiny and are almost transparent but they are active
and hungry. Within a few months the fish will be fully grown,
up to about 2 inches, with dazzling colors! The EASY-HATCH™ – Tropical Fish You Hatch set
includes a fish bowl, a certificate to mail and redeem fresh (yet dormant) fish
eggs, fish food (brine shrimp eggs), a hatching bowl for the brine shrimp, magnifying
glass, eye dropper (to move the brine shrimp), measuring spoon (to add sea salt
